Design by hand
Design Ethos
At Grimes Foundry, design is not predetermined, it is discovered through the dialogue between mind and hands. An idea arrives, but it is my hands that alter it, correct it, push back against it. I produce every piece myself, in-house, because the work bounces between intention and material reality, between what I imagined and what the bronze actually becomes. This constant negotiation; idea meeting resistance, vision adjusting to the weight and movement of the work, cannot be outsourced. Manufacturers follow instructions; they cannot participate in this essential conversation. When I cast the piece myself, when my hands are the instrument of refinement, the final object carries the full integrity of its making. This back-and-forth between mind and material is where authentic design lives. Making everything in-house means there is no translation, no intermediary between concept and object. It is the only way to create pieces that feel real, because they are the direct product of a maker.
